Small worlds
of wonder
I love creating atmospheric and poetic illustrations for picture books. My illustrations are often quiet and thoughtful, with a touch of the unexpected.
I love creating pictures that do more than simply accompany the words. They deepen the feeling of a story and leave room for readers to make their own discoveries.
I simply love what I do, and I’m always excited to discover a new story to illustrate. Maybe yours?

about
my work
»Many thanks, Elisabeth, for the pleasant and effortless collaboration… From day one, we worked together wonderfully, complemented each other perfectly, and the result is a beautiful children’s book, now available throughout South Tyrol!
If there’s ever a sequel, it would definitely be with you again.«
»An artist with heart and mind, who manages to give her characters a special kind of magic. Her illustrations convey vitality and bring to life a world full of feelings and emotions for the viewer.«
»The illustrations are a feast for the eyes. The way Elisabeth Mair manages to convey the little sparrow’s emotions is simply brilliant. I was especially struck by the suggested empty question mark, framed by leaves—there’s no better way to depict the absence of a beloved friend!
What I love most about this book is that you can’t quite tell whether it’s a children’s book for adults or an adult book for children. It leaves plenty of room for imagination, reflective journeys, and thoughtful contemplation for any age.«
